LightEdge 2023 Recycling Event

LightEdge & Synetic Technologies Recycled 37,000 Pounds of e-Waste in Earth Day Initiative

LightEdge, the leader in innovative cloud and colocation solutions for more than 25 years, diverted 37,000 pounds of e-waste from the landfill through its annual Earth Day recycling event alongside Synetic Techologies, an audited and certified e-waste recycling firm.

“It’s important that we all do our part. As a data center operator, one of the main ways LightEdge can help is by disposing of our tech equipment in a sustainable manner and providing a convenient way for our clients to do the same,” said Jim Masterson, LightEdge CEO. “We’re so grateful to all of our clients and partners for supporting this initiative, and to Synetic for making it possible.”

LightEdge’s annual recycling event has grown rapidly, with over 5 times more e-waste recycled this year compared to 2022. The impact of this year’s Earth Day recycling event includes:

  • 37,333 pounds of e-waste recycled
  • 52,038 pounds of GHG emissions reduced
  • 1,073 pounds of toxic metals diverted
  • 1,486,507 kWH of electricity saved

A 2019 report from the Platform for Accelerating the Circular Economy (PACE) and the UN E-Waste Coalition found that less than 20% of e-waste is formally recycled. Annual global e-waste production is shaping up to reach 120 million tons by 2050.

All sorts of IT, telecom and business equipment can be recycled, including computers, servers, networking equipment, storage systems, and more. With a strict zero-landfill policy, Synetic recycles 100% of end-of-life electronics. For more information on Synetic’s e-waste recycling program, click here.
